What type of heat do you need?
Radiant / forced air / convection / indirect-fired? Use the filters below to narrow your search by fuel source.
Choose by BTU output
Under 20,000 BTU - Portable / personal heating
20,000–50,000 BTU - Small garages, workshops & portable applications
50,000–100,000 BTU - Larger garages, workshops & jobsites
100,000–200,000 BTU - Large construction & commercial applications
200,000+ BTU - Large-volume industrial & temporary heating
BTU is only part of the equation
BTU output is a useful starting point, but it doesn't tell the whole story. Heating requirements depend on the building, environment and how the heater will be used.
Before choosing a heater, consider:
- Space size: Square footage matters, but so do ceiling height and the total volume of the space.
- Insulation: A well-insulated building will require less heat than a drafty or uninsulated space.
- Outdoor temperature: A heater needed for a mild fall day may not provide enough heat during a Canadian winter.
- Desired temperature: The warmer you want the space, the more heating capacity you'll generally need.
- Air leakage & ventilation: Open doors, windows, drafts and fresh-air requirements can significantly increase heat loss.
- Fuel availability: Consider whether propane, natural gas, diesel/kerosene or electricity is practical for your location and application.
- Heat type: Radiant heat warms people and objects directly, while forced-air heaters heat the surrounding air. Indirect-fired heaters provide ducted heated air while separating combustion exhaust from the heated air.
- How you'll use the space: A garage, construction site, workshop, tent and industrial space can have very different heating requirements even when they're the same size.
- Portability & installation: Consider whether you need a temporary portable heater or a more permanent heating solution.

Heaters and Heating Equipment
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose the right heater for my space?
Choosing the right heater starts with understanding what you actually need. Think about where you'll use it, how large the space is, what fuel or power is available, and how you want the heat to feel. BTU output and heating type matter too. We'd rather help you choose the right heater the first time than sell you something that isn't a good fit. Our Heater Buying Guide is a great place to start.
How many BTUs do I need?
BTUs are important, but they're not the whole story. The size of your space, insulation, ceiling height, outdoor temperature, ventilation, and whether you're heating an enclosed or open area can all affect how much heat you need. If you're between two heaters, don't just go for the biggest one—let's find the one that's actually right for the job.
What's the difference between radiant and forced-air heaters?
Think of it this way: radiant heaters warm people and objects directly, while forced-air heaters warm the surrounding air. Radiant heat can be a great choice for patios, outdoor seating, and targeted heating, while forced-air heaters are often well suited to garages, workshops, jobsites, and larger spaces. Understanding how each type works can help you choose a heater you'll be happy to own for years to come.
Should I choose an electric, propane, natural gas, or kerosene heater?
It depends on your application, your space, and what fuel or power you have available. Electric heaters are convenient when you have access to electricity, while propane, natural gas, and kerosene heaters can provide substantial heat where electricity isn't practical. The goal isn't to find the most powerful heater—it's to find the right tool for the job.
Can I use a heater outdoors?
Some heaters are built for outdoor use, while others are designed specifically for enclosed spaces. Always check the product specifications and manufacturer's instructions before putting a heater to work. If you're heating a patio, outdoor workspace, or other open area, choose a heater designed for that environment. A good heater should work with your space, not against it.
What type of heater is best for a garage or workshop?
That depends on the space and how you use it. Consider the size of the area, insulation, ventilation, available fuel or electricity, and whether you need to heat the entire space or just the area where you're working. Mr. Heater Big Maxx heaters are a very popular choice for garages and workshops, offering forced-air heating in a range of BTU outputs to suit different spaces. If you spend a lot of time in your workshop, choosing thoughtfully now can make a big difference over the life of the heater.
What types of heaters can I find at LionCove?
We carry heating equipment for all kinds of applications, including patios, garages, workshops, jobsites, and more. You'll find electric, propane, natural gas, diesel, radiant, and forced-air heaters from trusted brands. Use the filters on this page to narrow your options by brand, fuel type, heat type, BTU output, and more. And if you're not sure where to start, we're happy to help.
What should I consider when buying a heater in Canada?
Canadian weather can be demanding, so it's worth choosing equipment that's suited to your application and the conditions you'll be working in. Consider expected temperatures, space size and insulation, available fuel or electrical power, ventilation, and how portable you need the heater to be. Buying thoughtfully is the first step toward getting more life out of what you own.
What happens if my heater needs a repair?
A heater needing a repair doesn't necessarily mean it's time for a new heater. We believe in repairing instead of replacing whenever it makes sense. That's why LionCove carries a wide selection of heater parts and components to help keep your equipment working. Whether you need a replacement part for routine maintenance or you're bringing an older heater back to life, we're here to help you find what you need.
Does LionCove sell replacement parts for heaters?
Yes! We stock a wide range of heater parts and replacement components, because we believe good equipment is worth maintaining. Sometimes the best heater isn't the newest one—it's the one you already own that's been well maintained and still gets the job done. If you're looking for a specific part, contact us and we'll help you find the right replacement.
Still not sure which heater is right for you?
Tell us about your space, what you're using it for, the approximate size, available fuel or power, and how you plan to use the heater. We'll help you narrow down your options. Use our online chat or send us a message, and we'll get back to you with a personalized recommendation.
