Description
The Nisaku 6500 Hori Hori Garden Knife is the classic Japanese Hori Hori—a versatile, well-balanced gardening tool designed to handle the everyday jobs that arise in the garden. Digging, planting, weeding, cutting roots and separating plants are all well within its capabilities, making it the kind of tool you can reach for again and again.
Its 170 mm stainless-steel blade has a straight cutting edge on one side and a serrated edge on the other, while the pointed, concave profile is designed for digging and working around plants. Graduated markings along the back of the blade make it easy to measure planting depth for bulbs, seedlings and other plants.
The combination of a substantial blade, natural wood handle and balanced proportions gives the 6500 a reassuring feel in the hand. It isn't complicated, and it doesn't need to be. It's simply a well-designed tool that does its job well.
Made in Japan from 420J2 stainless steel, the 6500 reflects Nisaku's traditional approach to manufacturing. The blade is heat-treated to produce uniform hardness and can be resharpened and maintained over time, making this a tool intended to be used, looked after and kept.
A synthetic leather sheath is included to protect the blade between uses and keep the knife ready for the next job. The knife and sheath are presented in a photo-printed box, making the 6500 an especially thoughtful gift for a gardener, outdoor enthusiast, or anyone who appreciates beautifully made tools.
It's a gardening tool first and foremost. But when a tool is this thoughtfully made, it makes you want to pick it up—and lets the work be a little less ordinary.
